Amazon.com has announced it will be opening a development centre in Edinburgh to tap local talent for new features to add to the e-tail giant's site.

The centre is to open its doors before the end of the year but Amazon.com has already started the hunt for recruits to populate the Edinburgh site, with up to 40 positions needing to be filled by the end of 2006.

Amazon is looking for managers, a graphic designer, and software engineers with over three years experience in Java or C++.

Amazon.com, which recently launched its own search engine, received a £250,000 grant from the Scottish government to set up the development centre.
