Network Processor Tutorial on NPF's IPsec forwarding benchmark

|

To specify a standard for measuring IPsec forwarding performance, the Network Processing Forum has developed the IPsec Forwarding Application Level Benchmark. The benchmark is specified in text, not code, to enable benchmarking of widely divergent network processor (NP) architectures.

Manohar Castelino and Frank Hady of the network processor forum have written an article for Commsdesign.com. In this article, they take a detailed look at the benchmark, examining the key technical elements that must be examined to determine IPsec performance.

The article looks at forwarding rate, throughput, and latency tests. It also examines related work being conducted by other standards bodies.
