Choosing a dvd recorder with hard drive

| | Comments (1)

Having spent the last week reviewing what dvd recorders are available in Ireland that offer value for money, I have shortened the list to two contenders

LG RH-7500 80 GB 320 Euros in Dixons

The LG RH-7500 supports a variety of formats including + and - R. My one gripe is that is does not have EPG.
The 80 GB drive can always be upgraded in the future as its a maxtor ide drive.
Spec
Optical Digital Output Yes
Coaxial Digital Output Yes
Media Type CD-R, CD-RW, SVCD, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R, Kodak Picture CD, DVD, CD, Video CD
Recordable Media DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD+R
Recording Mode HQ, LQ, SQ, EQ
Supported Digital Video Standards DivX, XviD
MP3 Compatible Yes
DVD Additional Features Progressive scanning, JPEG photo playback

Pioneer DVR-530H-S 160 GB driver 447 Euros incl delivery from pixmania
This dvd recorder was winner of the "Best European DVD Recorder 2005-2006" from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA).

Recordable Media DVD-R /DVD-RW / DVD-RAM
It does not support DivX but has Electronic Program guide.

From the above, the conclusion I can draw: If you want a dvd recorder/player that supports multiple formats and you don't mind not having EPG then the LG RH-7500 could be the ideal candidate.

Great review, I was looking at the LG RH-7500 IN Currys Galway and it looked like the best buy. Thanks for the info on the inter Maxtor drive. The one thing I'd love to see on these recorders is a USB interface, so the recorded data could be transferred to PC and vice versa. If you come across the likes please send me a mail.
