Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann - Clonmel

|

The fleadh is on in Clonmel again this year. A website has been created especially for this.

http://www.clonmelfleadh.com

Having being involved in last years event , I am looking forward to rolling up the shirt sleeves and getting involved in streaming the Fleadh onto the Web. This involved a variety of tasks including setting up a wireless link to the Clonmel Campus, filming, editing, and 3 Km of duct tape ! Hopefully we can get our hands on a steadycam mounting as the floor in the dome has a tendency to vibrate when 600 people are tapping their feet in time to a Ceili band.

Seachtain na hEigse will form an integral part of this years event in Clonmel, this has been hailed as a new dimension to Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann , Tomas O'Canainn, an immense musical and academic figure in the traditional arts, will be bestowed with the honour of Ard Ollamh ,Supreme Bard of the Fleadh Cheoil, on Tuesday 24th August at a celebration dinner in Clonmel.

A full list of events are here. amongst the artists appearing at the fleadh are Liam Clancy and Danu. Having read Liam's autobiography I am looking forward to seeing the Carrick On Suir man play.

The fleadh will be bigger than ever this year with two gig rigs, sessions in pubs etc. The competitions will be opened officialy on Friday the 27th of August and will close on Monday the 30th. The various instrumental competitons will take place on the Sat 28th and Sun 29th, the highlight being the Ceili Bands on Sun night. I am looking forward to attending the mandolin and uileann pipes events.
